Do your eyes portray the real you? Before and 40 days after RESET Upper Lids. We are very social beings, and our face is one of our most significant assets in nonverbal communication. As we age, changes occur, especially in the areas around our eyes. Fullness can occur in both the upper eyelid and the lower eyelids. This fullness can make a person appear tired, sick, or old to others. Many people with these changes hear from others, “ You look tired. Are you OK?” Though we may tell ourselves we feel fine, often hearing these seemingly innocent comments can greatly … [Read more...] about Unlocking the Future of Eyelid Rejuvenation: The Groundbreaking RESET® Upper Lid Procedure

How to get rid of festoons under eyes
Our eyes are one of the most expressive parts of our face. They are also one of the first areas people assess when they see one another. Youthful eyes are bright with clear tight skin on the upper lid and lower lids. Usually as we age, the lids begin to change. Heavy upper lid skin can occlude the view of our upper lids and lower lid bags and festoons can make us look tired, sick and older. Festoons are a term to describe loose and swollen skin the lower eyelid and cheek regions. They are usually seen in individuals with lighter skin types and have their genesis in past sun … [Read more...] about How to get rid of festoons under eyes
How Can We Fix Hollow Eyes?
Eyes are one of the most important parts of our face for nonverbal communication with others. The eyes and the areas around the mouth are the first areas that people evaluate subconsciously when viewing one another. Puffy upper lids and swollen or hollow lower lids can make a person appear tired, sick and older even when they feel fine inside. This can be frustrating to those people with these conditions. The normal healthy lower eyelid is a short tight vertical line in the lower lid just underneath the lower eyelid lashes which then continues on with a convexity that connects … [Read more...] about How Can We Fix Hollow Eyes?
Medical Minute: Can jowls be improved without surgery?
Today we’re going to talk about non-surgical methods of improving the jawline and eliminating jowls. As we age, our face changes in ways we often wish it wouldn’t. Loss of facial volume can cause parts of our face to sag and droop. Though some people think that what they’re seeing is a matter of gravity, it’s usually more a matter of loss of volume. Just as when a tulip is fresh and healthy it stands upright and erect, as it ages it starts to sag. There isn’t more gravity acting on the tulip — rather it has lost its water volume. Our faces behave in the same way. Our faces sag as we lose … [Read more...] about Medical Minute: Can jowls be improved without surgery?

RESET® for Sun Damage and the New Treatment of Esophagus Cancer : The Common Link
A recent news report detailed a new treatment for an early form of esophagus cancer called Barrett’s Esophagus. Esophageal cancer is one of the fastest growing cancers in America. It is related to chronic acid reflux, a condition which causes stomach acid to leak through a sphincter that separates the stomach from the esophagus. This process damages the esophageal cells, which then become cancerous and potentially deadly. The esophagus is a tube that connects the mouth to the stomach. It lies behind the trachea, which is our body’s breathing tube. Medical Minute: Why Selfies Look Fake
In our current age, with cameras in everyone's phones, people take selfies all the time and post them to social media. Often, when we see ourselves in a selfie, we find that our image looks strange to us. This isn't just in our heads; there are some interesting scientific reasons for this. First, the lens in a camera is a wide-angle lens, and when held close to our face, it causes a marked distortion and warping of our facial geometry. Our brains are hardwired to appreciate certain ratios in our faces. These ratios have a basis in the timeless beauty ratios described in the Renaissance. In … [Read more...] about Medical Minute: Why Selfies Look Fake
Medical Minute: Are Stitches Necessary After Laser Eyelid Surgery
A laser is a great tool to use when performing surgery. Carbon Dioxide or CO2 lasers have the ability to seal both vessels and nerves when used in surgery, and this results in less bruising and less pain for my patients afterwards. The reason CO2 lasers can seal blood vessels and nerves is because of the nature of the CO2 wavelength of 10,600 nanometers. CO2 is a slightly inefficient beam which spills over extra heat in the wound when cutting through tissue. This extra heat is helpful in sealing small blood vessels and small nerves such as those encountered during laser eyelid surgery, … [Read more...] about Medical Minute: Are Stitches Necessary After Laser Eyelid Surgery

A Promising Product for Cheek Augmentation
Allergan's JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC: A Promising Product for Cheek Augmentation – If Used Properly I'm excited to hear about the new release of Allergan's JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC product for deeper-level facial augmentation. The company is proposing the use of this product for cheek augmentation to impart a younger look, and they mention (correctly) that improving the cheeks can also improve the nasolabial folds without having to add as much volume back to them directly. Along with my excitement, however, comes a concern. While this product shows great potential, I worry about its … [Read more...] about A Promising Product for Cheek Augmentation
